INTRODUCTION
Your new AM/FM STEREO DUAL CASSETTE PLAYER/RECORDER is a specially designed all solid state set which, with proper care, will give you years of trouble-free service. Please read these operating instructions carefully as they will help you obtain maximum performance from this set. Unpack the set carefully and place it on a level surface, away from sources of excessive heat, such- as radiators.

POWER SUPPLY - 2 WAY SYSTEM
This set is designed to be operated from the two different type power sources as listed below:

A. DC OPERATION
This set runs on 6 size "D" batteries. For best performance, always use heavy duty alkaline batteries (rechargeable batteries are not recommended).

TO INSTALL BATTERIES
1. Remove the Battery Compartment Cover (27) by gently pushing downward and outward.
2. Insert 6 size "D" batteries
BE SURE TO PLACE THE BATTERIES AS PER THE SKETCH SHOWN, LOWER BATTERIES FACE ONE WAY, UPPER THE OTHER WAY.
3. Replace cover.

NOTE: Old batteries may swell and leak. To avoid damage to your instrument, remove the batteries when the set is to be stored for long periods of time or if the batteries become exhausted (the Power lamp will not light if batteries are exhausted). And if the sound is low or distorted your batteries probably need replacing.

· Do not mix old and new batteries.
· Do not mix alkaline, standard (carbon-zinc) or rechargeable (nickel-cadmium) batteries.

B. AC OPERATION
Plug the AC cord into 120 volts AC 60Hz (10W) standard household outlet.

NOTE: This cord is polarized. This means the cord is fixed the cord will only fit ONE way into the socket or wall outlet. If it doesn't fit, don't force it, just reverse it and try again.

TO PLAY THE RADIO

1, Slide the Function switch (5) to RADIO position (the Power lamp will light).
2. Select required wave band(AM or FM or FM STEREO) with Band switch (7)
3. Tune to required station with the Tuning Control (8)
4. Gently rock this control back & forth until you get the strongest, clearest sound.
5. The built-in AM antenna and the FM Telescoping Antenna (9) are directional. When receiving FM broadcast, pull out the FM Telescoping Antenna in full length. The strongest reception can be achieved by rotating the set for AM or FM Telescoping Antenna (9)
6. Adjust the Volume Control (1) to your listening preference.
7. To turn off the radio, slide the Function switch (5) to TAPE (radio off) position. The power lamp will go off.
NOTE: FM stereo is weaker than FM (mono). If your FM stereo station is weak or you hear too much noise or hissing, try to adjust the FM Telescoping Antenna (9).This set is equipped with an automatic FM Stereo Indicator (11). When the radio is tuned to an FM Stereo station, the light will glow.

FM STEREO INDICATOR LAMP
With the Band switch in the FM position, the FM Stereo Indicator Lamp (11) will light when you tune to a station broadcasting in FM Stereo. This will help you pick out the stereo station as you tune across the dial. Occasionally, a momentary burst of background noise may cause the light to flicker. This occasional flicker should be ignored.

POWER INDICATOR LAMP
When power is on either for radio or tape, the Power Indicator lamp (10) will light. If this lamp is off or weak, your batteries need replacing.

STEREO HEADPHONE JACK
A Stereo Headphone Jack (4) has been provided on the top of the set so that you can listen to the set without disturbing others. To use this jack, plug in Iow impedance stereo headphones (not included) and adjust the Volume Control (1) for your listening pleasure. Special internal switches will turn off the set's speakers when you plug in the stereo headphones.

BASS BOOST SWITCH
This switch enhances Iow frequency (BASS) sound at Iow volume setting, press the Bass Boost switch (2) to turn this feature on, press it again for normal sounds.

CASSETTE OPERATION Note that all of the tape buttons except the Cassette Pause button (16 & 21) and Cassette Stop/Eject button (17 & 22) operate in the same fashion. To activate a feature, you press the button all the way down so that it stays in its down position when you release it. To deactivate the feature, press Cassette Stop/Eject button (17 & 22).

The Cassette Pause button (16 & 21) is used to edit commercials or in case recording is temporarily interrupted. Since the deck motor is still running while the Pause button (16 & 21) is depressed, this pause feature should be used for a short time only. The Pause button (21) of deck B also activates relay play. See page 10 for more information.

STOP
The tape player can be stopped manually by pressing the Cassette Stop/Eject button (17 &22). This instrument has a built-in automatic stop and the tape mechanism will stop playing or recording and shut itself off when it has reached the end of the tape.

CASSETTES

CASSETTE TAPE SELECTION

CASSETTE TAPE SELECTION
The quality and condition of the cassette tapes you use will have a direct effect on the performance of this set.
Low quality tapes tend to break and stretch and a broken tape can easily become entangled in the drive mechanism, causing major damage. Stretched tapes will run at uneven speeds and will distort anything recorded on them.
· Use only well-known brands of tape.
· Use of C-120 (120 minutes) cassette is not recommended. The extreme thinness of this tape may result in breakage or other failures.
· This set is not designed for Cr02, Fe-Cr or METAL tape use. Therefore, be sure to use name brand normal bias cassette tape.

CASSETTE TAPE FOR RECORDING
Generally, a fresh blank tape is most desirable for use when recording. A type with previously recorded information can also be used since this instrument erases the tape in the recording process, providing the Record Interlock defeat tabs are in place. For more information on these tabs, see PROTECTING CASSETTE TAPE AGAINST ERASURE. (see page 12)

IMPORTANT NOTES CONCERNING CASSETTE TAPES
1. After a period of time, especially when inexpensive brands of tapes are used, the sound during playback may become "muffled" or in extreme cases, almost inaudible. This is most frequently NOT A FAULT OF THE MACHINE ITSELF but merely a deposit of oxide and other contaminating element on the tape head. The easiest way to overcome the problem is by using a head-cleaning cassette. Follow the instructions provided with the cleaner carefully and DO NOT OVER-USE as this may cause undue wear.
The tape head is a delicate precision component and serious damage will result if you attempt to scrape the contamination away with a sharp implement.
2. Other common causes of trouble are:
(a) Tapes jamming - leading to uneven speed during playback.
(b) Tapes tangling - where the tape wraps itself around vital parts of the mechanism.
To reduce the chances of these problems occurring, you should take the following precautions:
1) Check that there are no loose layers of tape visible through the cassette center window (see FIG.l). Take-up these loose layers using a pencil or ball-point pen before inserting the cassette into the machine (see FIG.2)
2) If the cassette feels tight while performing the operation shown in FIG.2, the tape may be jamming due to "ridges" in the winding of the tape (visible through the center window). These may be removed in most cases by fast winding the cassette from one end to the other and back again. Or the tape may be permanently damaged. Do not play damaged or worn out tapes, as this may cause your set to break.
